Oprah Winfrey is touching on the work that has gone into her recent weight loss.
The media mogul — who dazzled in a tight, long-sleeved purple gown while posing on the red carpet at The Color Purple world premiere on Wednesday — discussed her slimmed-down transformation.
“It’s not one thing, it’s everything,” Winfrey, 69, told Entertainment Tonight at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
Per the outlet, Winfrey also stressed just how much she’s had to do to achieve her new look. “I intend to keep it that way,” she said, adding, “I was on that treadmill today.”
The television personality accessorized her all-purple red carpet ensemble with a glittering purple clutch bag and purple slingback heels that featured a silver embellishment. Her hair, meanwhile, had been styled into curls and she wore dangling silver earrings.
Winfrey is a producer of the upcoming movie musical and she also played the character Sofia in the original 1985 film, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
The new film, which is set to hit theaters on Dec. 25, is based on Alice Walker’s 1982 novel and is an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway production.
In September, Winfrey hosted a panel, Oprah Daily’s “The Life You Want Class: The State of Weight,” where she discussed the obesity crisis and addressed her own weight.
“You all know I’ve been on this journey for most of my life,” she told those in attendance. “My highest weight was 237 lbs. I don’t know if there is another public person whose weight struggle has been exploited as much as mine over the years.”
“You all have watched me diet and diet and diet,” she continued, before noting that it’s “a recurring thing because my body always seems to want to go back to a certain weight.”
Winfrey went on to detail how people would treat her differently when she weighed over 200 lbs. “This is a world that has shamed people for being overweight forever. And all of us who’ve lived it know that people treat you differently, they just do,” she said.
The former talk show host then explained that she found she dealt with that stigma the most while out clothes shopping.
“It’s that thing where people are like, ‘Let me show you the gloves. Would you like to look at the handbags? Because we know that there’s nothing in here for you,’ ” she said. “There is a condescension. There is stigma.”‘
The actress and philanthropist has also been open about following WeightWatchers to shed the pounds. (Winfrey is an investor in WW and has been on the board of the company since 2015.)
In 2020, she shared that she can see herself sticking with the program for life. “I don’t feel like I’m on a diet that I’m ever going to go off of again,” Winfrey said during a call for WeightWatchers members. “I feel like I’ll be counting points for the rest of my life.”
