The University of Florida (UF) has chosen a site near the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center in Jacksonville for its new campus. The campus will offer graduate programs and focus on semiconductor technology research. The plan was approved by UF’s Governance and Internal Affairs Committee.
The UF Board of Trustees is expected to finalize the proposal on Friday. Board Chairman Mori Hosseini called the campus a “bold vision,” providing students opportunities to thrive in Jacksonville, a city with a growing economy and job market.
Mayor Donna Deegan praised the project, emphasizing its role in workforce development and downtown revitalization. She described it as a major step toward making Jacksonville a leader in industries shaping the future.
The campus is set to begin offering graduate programs by fall 2026, with a strong focus on semiconductor technology through the Florida Semiconductor Institute. This aligns with state and national priorities for advancing high-tech industries.
To support the campus, Deegan’s office is working with the City Council and Downtown Investment Authority to provide 22 acres of buildable land. The collaboration highlights Jacksonville’s commitment to education and innovation.
