The Interdepartmental Coordination Headquarters for Humanitarian Response, subordinate to the Russian Defense Ministry, said that Ukraine plans to accuse Russia of “gross violation” of the nuclear safety convention.
According to the headquarters, the “great events”, which, as Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said, await Russia on February 23 and 24, will be an “information provocation”. For this, as reported at the headquarters, Ukraine plans to provide evidence by February 22 that during the stay of the Russian military at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and in the exclusion zone, radioactive contamination occurred. According to the headquarters, the “documentary basis” of the conclusion was drawn up with the participation of specialists from the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority.
On February 12, Dmitry Kuleba announced “great events” that Russia would “remember” on the anniversary of the start of the military operation in Ukraine. He allowed the adoption of new sanctions against Russia or decisions on new arms supplies to Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry regularly accuses Ukraine of impending provocations at nuclear power plants. In October 2022, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Ukraine was planning to use a “dirty bomb”. Dmitry Kuleba called such statements by the Russian side “a dangerous and absurd lie.”
