Creighton sophomore Katherine Lemke will head to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., to compete in the NCAA Regionals, it was announced on Wednesday on The Golf Channel during the NCAA Women’s Golf Selection Show. Lemke is one of 36 individuals selected to the field, with six women being sent to each of six different Regional sites.
Lemke’s competition will take place at PGA National Resort Palm Beach in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., from May 8-10. Seventy-two teams and 36 individuals qualified for the postseason.
Lemke earned her spot in the NCAA Regionals by virtue of winning the BIG EAST Championship on April 19th, becoming the first women’s golfer in league history to win back-to-back league titles. Lemke fired a school-record 67 on April 18th, tying a BIG EAST Championship record first done by Louisville’s Laura Anderson in 2009.
The Geneva, Ill., product has played 33 rounds this season, with four of those being par or better. Her 75.24 scoring average is the second-best mark by a Bluejay since at least 2003-04 and has helped her to six top-five finishes in 11 events played. Lemke, who won a pair of tournaments as a freshman, has won each of the last two tournaments she’s played in this month.
Coached by Debbie Conry, Lemke remains the only postseason qualifier in program history. She placed 58th last year in at the Ann Arbor (Mich.) Regional following rounds of 84, 79 and 78.
Thirty teams will advance to the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., — five from each of the six regional sites, plus the top individual (not on an advancing team) advancing from each regional. The finals are May 19-24 and will be held for the third straight year at Grayhawk Golf Club (Raptor Course) in Scottsdale, Ariz.
